The Little Horn

"I considered the horns, and. behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things."

These "horns" symbolize powers. These ten horns symbolize the ten lesser provinces that came forth from the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was the fourth Kingdom seen in Daniel's vision.

To understand these symbols concerning this "little horn", we will need a brief history lesson first. We read in Revelation 13:2b that the dragon(representing Paganism in the first century) gave his power, and his seat, and his great authority to the "Blasphemous Beast." This blashemous beast is that form of apostate religion claiming Christianity. These symbols are speaking about the previous Kingdom of Rome, which was predominately Pagan. The Dragon (Pagan Rome)is now giving its power to a NEW Kingdom referring to the beast which is "rising up out of the sea," (Revelation 13:1)

The stage was set for the transfer of the power and seat, and great authority. This happened when the Emperor Constantine moved his seat (office) to Constantinople in the third century. This left the seat in Rome vacant. The Bishop of the apostate church took advantage of this situation and claimed his authority as acting "Head" of the church at Rome. In the fourth century, the Emperor Valentinian officially recognized and conferred the tittle "Bishop of Rome" to one called Leo the Great. This gave him unlimited authority and power over the entire Roman Empire in the spiritual realm. The Catholic Church reveres him as one of their greatest Popes! This prestigious position of honor from the Emperor earned Leo the name of "Papa" or Pope among the people.

This union of the Emperor and the Bishop began the reviving of the old Imperial rule that had been the sixth (political) head of Rome. The overthrow of the Lambardian Kingdom under the reign of Pepin opened the way for the apostate church (calling itself Christian) to have even greater power and authority. The overthrow of this kingdom included the Heruli and the Ostrogoths.(three horns)This was the overthrow spoken of in Daniel 7:8 This "horn" represented the forthcoming papacy, for it appeared AFTER the other three horns were uprooted. Daniel's prophecy further describes this horn as having "eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things."

Symbolic language tells us that when "human" characteristics are connected to a beast, it always represents a form of religion. This horn also had a "mouth speaking great things." However! These "great things that were spoken" were words spoken against the Most High God! This is verified as Daniel continues to relate his vision.Daniel had ask the angel to interpret these things... "Then I would know the truth concerning the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet; And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. I beheld, and that same horn made war with the saints and prevailed against them." (Daniel 7:19-21)

We have previously identified this "Beast" viewed in Revelation 13:1-10, as the Pagan Roman Empire. We have also established the truth as to who the next successor was. None other than the Popes of the apostate church. We will see clearly that this "Little Horn" symbolizes the Papacy that developed in the Roman Empire.

Let us consider in detail Daniel's interpretation of this "Little Horn" who had, "eyes like a man" and spoke great things against the Most High."
